Creatures of Habit

We all have bad habits. I know I do, and they annoy me but I just can't shake them. A lot of people refer to having OCD and what not, but quite frankly I don't think it's that serious. They just want to sound special. But on the real though, these habits are getting ridiculous sometimes.

Locks.
When it comes to making sure things are locked, there's no limit to how many times I can double (or triple, or quadruple..) check. It doesn't matter what I'm locking, I
have to check and make sure it is locked.
  1. The car. Whenever I park my car I push the lock button as I walk away. Now although I hear the all the doors lock I continuously push the button and watch the lights flash. As I proceed to walk away from the car I will turn around, walk backwards, and push the button some more times and watch the lights flash - even checking down to make sure I'm pushing the "lock" button and not the "unlock" button.
  2. The house/apartment. When leaving the house/apartment/hotel room, I must always make sure the door is locked behind me. I can stand in front of the door jiggling the door knob or trying to open it for minutes (not hours, I'm not that crazy). It's to the point where I check for a while and finally leave, exit the building, sometimes even walk a few blocks, and second guess myself. Upon returning to the building I always find that the door is locked and secure, but you just never know..
  3. Lockers. Back in high school and now sometimes when I have to rent a locker at the gym or something, making sure the lock is locked is... yes you guessed it, very important to me. I stand in front of the lock and continuously pull it to make sure it won't open. I'll stand there, pull a couple times, spin the lock wheel a couple times, pull some more, and repeat the process until I feel that it is secure. Weird, I know.
Eating.
Those of you who know me, know that I'm sort of ambidextrous. I say "sort of" because I'm not completely awesome, but slightly more than all you narrow-minded lefties/righties. Some sports I will play as a lefty, while others I will play as a righty. Sometimes I feel that it is completely arbitrary for as I learn brand new sports/activities, I have to try both ways out to see which I like more. That said, finger food is something I have to eat with my left hand. It feels so odd when I grab some snacks with my right hand. Funny thing is that when I eat with utensils, I use my right hand. This transitions me to the exception: on occasions when I find myself eating one of those small bag of chips such as Flamin Hot Cheetos, I will hold the bag in my left hand and use my right hand. HOWEVER. The trick is to use a plastic fork or something similar to eat them. This way, your hand doesn't get stained red forever (literally). Call me weird but it works.
Backpacks.
When I zip my backpack, I always zip it back to a certain side. If the backpack is standing on the floor facing away from me (so the straps are towards my legs) the zippers will always be on the left side. I don't know if that's weird or not, but it just makes the most sense so you're not always searching for the zippers. In addition to its convenience, back in the day when some people would try to pull some funny business with your shit, but your zippers are off, you know right away. (Note to Daniel: I noticed you always pulled both zippers to the top center of your backpack so whenever mine was like that I knew you were being a little bitch. Haha) I also always put my water bottle on the right side cupholder.
iTunes.
For some reason, it bothers me when songs begin to rack up those play counts. Maybe subconsciously I don't want people looking at my laptop and seeing what songs I like to play the most, but I just can't stand it. It's to the point where I will reset the play count on songs if it gets too high for my comfort. But normally, I will just play the song and skip to the next before it ends so that no play count will be added.

I'm sure I have more random things such as these, but I'm fresh out of ideas. More on this next time I suppose. I'm not that weird, though, really. Haha.

  1. wow I am the same way about certain things too. I cannot have knives pointed at me when they're lying on tables. It just creeps the shit out of me.
