First on my list of topics that I often wonder about is traffic. It is something we encounter in our everyday lives, but how does it start? If we all collaborated and just went a little faster together, couldn't we just get through it quickly? Granted, I realize that sometimes there are accidents or lanes close, which I completely understand. I could probably be deemed a "rubber neck" too, but who isn't? We're all curious to see what happened, how bad the accident is, how fucked up the cars got. I'm guilty, but the majority of the time the traffic just seems to disappear and everyone can go fast once again. Hmm.. I wonder why....
I love that I am from San Francisco. I think that it's so much tighter to be able to say that I'm from there. But did you ever stop to think about what the city looked like before it became paved over and had all those sky scrapers? Were there just trees everywhere? And how long did it take for all the roads we have to be cemented! That must have taken a lifetime. Next time you're out looking at a sick view of the city just think about it.
Going along with the idea of paving cities and organizing their layouts, why are Chinatowns always near the Little Italy areas? For example, Chinatown in San Francisco is right next to North Beach. It's the same in New York, as well as in Boston I believe. Not too sure about the latter. I love Italy. I think that if I could choose a race to be other than Chinese, I would choose to be Italian.
I hope this has sparked some level of curiosity in you guys as those are some things I often wonder about myself. Still only my first blog so bear with me as I hope these will get more entertaining. Odd things I've found are soon to come as well. Until next time..

Immigrant communities tend to be clustered in the same areas for economic reasons. As immigrants at the time of the establishment of most of the "ethnic enclaves" in major cities arrived without much money, they tended to cluster in urban areas where the rent was affordable and close to the largest employers of immigrants: labor intensive, unskilled industry. Of course there are other reasons but this is a significant contributor.
